Doesn’t this law contravene the Irish constitution on the grounds of equality, that all men and women be treated as equals. If religions are allowed to publish materials (with intent) that are offensive to darwinists, agnostics or whatever group without committing a crime but the reverse is a crime, surely that inequality is a breech of the Irish constitution

If there is any way I can support the opposition to any form of Blasphemy law, please let me know.
It has no meaning to protect by law any religious belief, which is no more than a superstition, perhaps accepted by millions but a superstition never the less.

Il est grand temps de réagir contre tous les intégrismes religieux et de défendre la laïcité et les droits des athées à s'exprimer librement. "Ecrasons l'infâme!" (voltaire).

Personally, I think it is about time this sort of law was passed - I'm tired of people making fun of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and I'd like to see them all fined to the maximum extent.

Between getting the catholic newspaper spam "Alive!" in my post box to vigils at tree stumps and now a law to bring back notions of blasphemy.. I've had enough! The Catholic concentration camps (aka Industrial schools) may be gone but the church still has an icy grip on our country. I was baptised a catholic but do not wish to be counted as one! Soon certain books and films will be banned again. And if you're gay? Good luck. How can i have my voice heard??

Hi,

One thought I had that you may want to look into, the European Convention on Human Rights, Article 9 (regarding thought, conscience and religion) and Article 10 (freedom of expression), set out clearly that everyone has rights to freedom of religious expression. I'm no legal expert, but they may be worth asking a lawyer about.

Just a thought though; if it goes through, does that mean that you won't be able to eat Cows, since this would conflict with the Hindu faith? What about joining the Irish defense forces, wouldn't that be frowned on by Quakers?

Good luck with the campaign guys.

Hi. It's great to see this site. I've been calling and emailing politicians and press with some good responses but I'm itching to get into a developed campaign.
